What is the blob eating game where you eat and grow?
Updated 2026-10-11
The blob eating game where your cell eats smaller cells and grows is Agar.io, released in April 2015. It is the first and best-known game of a genre called io games, after the .io domain these games use.
People also call it a cell eating game or an eat and grow game. The idea is the same: a shared map, other players around you, and the bigger eats the smaller.
What are the rules of an eat and grow game?
- You start as a small cell on a shared map. Other people play around you.
- You eat dots and cells smaller than you, and you grow.
- A bigger cell can eat you. Then you start again from zero.
Which blob eating games are there?
The rule is older than io games: Feeding Frenzy used it in 2004 and Tasty Planet in 2006. The table lists six games where the bigger eats the smaller.
| game | what you play as | what is different |
|---|---|---|
| Agar.io | a cell | you eat dots and smaller cells, and you can split your cell into parts |
| Slither.io | a snake | you grow by eating colored pellets. Your snake dies if its head runs into another snake |
| Hole.io | a hole in the ground | you swallow trees, cars and smaller holes. A round lasts two minutes |
| Tasty Planet | a ball of grey goo | it eats anything smaller than itself. A single-player game with levels |
| Feeding Frenzy | a fish | you eat smaller fish and grow until you can eat bigger ones. A single-player game |
| Crybble Wars | a bubble | in a match with a paid entry the money sits inside your bubble. If you are eaten, it drops onto the map as a chest. There is a free match too |
What is the grey blob eating game?
Most likely Tasty Planet, first released in 2006 by Dingo Games. You control a ball of grey goo that eats anything smaller than itself and grows with every bite.
Which cell eating game has a virus?
Agar.io. Its viruses are green spiky circles: a cell that eats one is split into many smaller cells. In Crybble Wars the hamster works the same way: a small bubble hides behind it, and a big one gets torn apart.
Is there an eat and grow fish game?
Yes: Feeding Frenzy, published by PopCap Games in 2004. You play a sea predator that eats smaller fish and grows until it can eat bigger ones.
Is there a mobile eating game?
Agar.io, Slither.io and Hole.io have iOS and Android versions alongside the browser one. Tasty Planet is on iOS and Android too.
How is Crybble Wars different?
Crybble Wars is an io game for the web and Telegram. The familiar part is there: your bubble grows from food, the big eat the small, and you can split. To eat another bubble you must be at least 10% heavier and cover more than half of it. The rules are on the “How the game works” page.
The difference is money. The entry is free or costs 1, 30 or 100 CBW; 1 CBW is $0.01. A paid entry sits in your bubble. If you are eaten, it drops onto the map as a chest. If you leave through the house button, it goes to your balance. The comparison point by point is on the “Crybble Wars and other io games” page.
